A waterfront dining precinct in the new and developing suburb of Armstrong Creek. A greenfield site, on the waters’ edge, and a client with an open mind, presented the exciting opportunity to create something truly unique!
Responding to the wetlands bordering the site, a magnificent pelican sculpture was proposed, sheltering a series of restaurants, cafés, and studio spaces beneath its wings.
The body of the pelican structure protects a playground, designed to connect the buildings with the support of abundant outdoor dining spaces and boardwalk interfaces.
The café and studio spaces were designed as a separate structure from the membrane roof or the ‘wings’ above. The two structures were linked together through the integration of skylights and roof decks.
By daring to be different, Select Architects presented a truly unique and iconic design proposal.
