Select Architects were engaged to convert an existing warehouse into a new state-of-the-art education and training facility for not-for-profit organisation ‘genU’ (formally Karingal).
The project was embraced by our team to expand and improve the existing packing facility and incorporate a training centre, commercial kitchen, café, administration headquarters, warehouse and commercial laundry.
The existing buildings were repurposed and converted to allow full accessibility for people with physical and intellectual disabilities who can receive training on site and integrate into the workforce. Understanding the complex and necessary requirements when it comes to designing accessible buildings, Select Architects were mindful of the needs of people of all abilities in the community so that enjoyment and productivity were achieved in the unique design.
Careful consideration and re-use of the existing structure and services ensured that expenditure on the conversion was kept within the client’s budget without compromising on the needs of the project.
