The farm land had been in the client’s family dating back over 100 years.
The site nestled on the gentle bend of the Merri River required a careful and sensitive design into the landscape whilst taking advantage of the magnificent and serene rural views.
Our principal architect, Peter Serra, is brother of the client and grew up along the river and identified with not only the obvious river inter frontage but also the subtle nuances of the area.
The simple pavilion inspiration of the design came from the local dairy industry and catered for the ability to close down the separate pavilions as required. The internal courtyards provided a hierarchy of outdoor spaces which also protected from the sometimes prevalent winds from the southwest.
The clients frequently entertain and have numerous family and guests from around the globe. Their house has been crafted as a home which responds directly to the way in which they live whilst being respectful of the landscape in which it is nestled.
