– FITOUT & MAINTENANCE-
DATE: 2007
THE BRIEF:
Refurbishment and extension to the existing centre, ensuring integrity of original design was maintained.
OUR APPROACH:
The 800m² two-storey building was originally designed by an Australian Architect in 1988 to represent the cultural heritage of the Jardwadjali and Diab Wurrung Aboriginal communities of South-Western Victoria. It was designed as a place for living culture and for visitors to experience, through the building, the richness of Aboriginal culture.
Select was appointed to evaluate maintenance works and refurbishment of the building – including an extension for additional administration offices.
RESULTS:
The unique design of the building incorporated the use of local sandstone, natural timbers and a striking curved winged roof profile. The organic expression of the building was maintained with a subtle refurbishment and sympathetic extension that maintains the integrity of the original design.
