A modest Victorian weatherboard cottage was replaced with two townhouses, each with panoramic views over Rippleside Park to the Geelong Foreshore and beyond. The sloping block is on a site area of 488m2 with a building area of 282m2 for both townhouses.
The dwellings are constructed over three levels. The lowest level is a semi basement double garage and storage with bedroom and utilities to the ground floor, and an open plan living area flanked with generous terraces featured either end on the upper floor. Contemporary high-quality finishes and treatment to the facade unify the two dwellings with a kerb appeal that is highly distinctive.
By working closely with the City of Greater Geelong and neighbouring residences, a striking design with higher density than usually allowed was achieved in a traditionally conservative and heritage sensitive area. The partnering process allowed a Planning Permit to be issued quickly without any objections.
