The people of Dhauwurd-Wurrung approached Select Architects to enable a renovation and extension of the existing Health and Wellbeing Centre to expand facilities and provide state of the art health care for the local Portland community.
The Dhauwurd-Wurrung Elderly and Community Health Service (DWECH) had outgrown its original facilities which led to a new contemporary design for a renovation and addition to the existing building which sits on a 7732m² site area.
The innovative design involved new cladding of natural timber panels, the addition of slot windows and striking colourful, authentic Indigenous art panels.
The client appreciated that the additions and renovations were designed with not only respect to Indigenous culture, but also with modern day health issues in mind. The service provides general practice medical care, specialist consulting and social services.
