Helping People Live

The way we live is a constantly changing dynamic. Whether it’s an apartment building, unit development or home, we are focussed on the needs and desires of the individual residents and balancing this perspective with commercial outcomes sought by development partners.  Our end to end approach to the entire building lifecycle sees us as the preferred partners for many residential developments in regional and urban settings.

Rural Retreat

– Busty Road, Apollo Bay –

THE BRIEF:

The brief for this holiday house was inspired by the stunning environment and required a carefully considered response given its location.  The one-hectare site is located in a remote area on a steep, rolling hillside with breathtaking views.

OUR APPROACH:

Responding to the site conditions, this pavilion-style house was designed to sit gently into the landscape with an orientation that captured the magnificent views whilst minimising exposure to the elements. The external treatment includes a natural timber facade that will weather over time giving it an understated, muted grey tone. Three distinctive, traditional rendered brick chimney stacks complement the elegant design.

RESULTS:

The house has four discrete courtyards giving much-needed protection from the elements, especially wind and rain. High quality contemporary finishes throughout complete this luxurious, yet humble family holiday home that provides generosity of space without ostentation.

Country Club Villages

– Apartment living building –

THE BRIEF:

Country Club Villages provides retirement living apartment and recreational complexes in various states of Australia, each site involving unique opportunities and constraints. Our task was to develop a template for a retirement living apartment complex that could be modified to suit each site’s specific requirements.

OUR APPROACH:

Our services required a thorough understanding of the client’s requirements for, and limitations of, each site, as well as the specific building regulations and methodologies in each state. Our primary services included comprehensive site analysis, building planning, stakeholder coordination, detailed design and documentation and construction stage advice.

This project was also the first time Select integrated BIM software for documentation procurement.

RESULTS:

Our services are continuing with Country Club Villages, with a satisfied client and the first few stages of this long-term project reaching successful completion.

  • “Country Club Villages have now engaged Select Architects for a third Luxury Retirement Village. Our multi-level apartment development in Noosaville benefitted immensely from Chelsea and Haylea’s passion, dedication and professionalism. They left no stone unturned!”

Mr & Mrs Gow

– Jack’s Place –

THE BRIEF:

Formerly the home of Geelong Football Club’s longest serving President (Jack Jennings), “Jack’s Place” celebrates views across the historical Botanic Gardens and is 200m from Geelong’s Waterfront. We were asked to design a  state-of-the-art home which celebrates its historical roots, with city views and respect to its neighbouring Victorian-styled residences.

OUR APPROACH:

Cognisant of the surrounding Victorian aesthetic the design sought to be respectful of the scale and grain of these properties while creating a striking, open and free-flowing home for the couple approaching retirement. The prominent site required careful design and sightlines to and from the adjacent botanical gardens, bay and city.

RESULTS:

The clients were delighted with the striking and sensitive design of their home as well as with the seamless and stress-free process of working with Select Architects.

  • “The team at Select could not be faulted for their creative free thinking which has delivered an exceptional ‘home’ for my wife and I into retirement.”
